Senior Health foundation staff is dedicated to our senior students and seeing that they get the best possible education and service.

In addition to the staff members shown here, we also have a core group of senior volunteers that help us teach classes, operate and maintain our computer labs, and provide help during our Open Lab times. The truth is, we couldn’t do what we do without the generosity and hard work of the SHF volunteers.

john01John Lortz - is the Director of Education and Technology for the Senior Health Foundation. In his role with Senior Health, John is responsible for development of all class curriculum, training manuals, and interactive CD-ROM's. He is the primary architect of the Senior Health Foundation Web site. He also acts as the instructor for many of the computer classes and Internet workshops. In a consulting role, he has assisted other retirement communities in the creation of senior training labs.

In addition to his duties at Senior Health, John has been an adjunct instructor for over eighteen years at College of St. Mary, teaching advanced business applications, Web page design, and various programming classes. He also serves as a freelance writer for the Smart Computing and PC Today magazines and has published over 30 articles on a wide range of computer related topics.

John has served on the Omaha Public Schools Internet Advisory Committee, was a featured speaker at the Nebraska AGPAM Conference, and has presented at the national AAHSA Annual Meeting. He was a keynote speaker at the Nebraska Society for Healthcare Marketing and Public Relations conference, presenting ideas on Internet marketing and Web page design.

John has his Masters degree in Computers in Education, but has gained much of his technical knowledge from five years of experience as Director of Information Systems for a software development company. He has also expanded his technical capabilities through his work as a private computer systems consultant and Web site designer.

While his duties as a computer instructor at the College of St. Mary have provided John with a strong foundation in teaching, for over ten years his primary focus has been on teaching computer fundamentals to senior citizens. Instructing over 10,000 seniors in over 600 classes has given John valuable insights into senior computer education and has guided his efforts in developing class curriculum and training materials that are specially designed for senior citizen needs.
